HUMAN TRAFFICKING THROUGH VICTIMS’ EYES

PHOTO VOICE - Human trafficking through victims’ eyes

For victims of human trafficking, explaining what they have been through during the exploitation can be a complicated and distressing experience. How can they express the lack of freedom, the feeling of helplessness and the severe loneliness? How can they recount months of inhuman working and living conditions, of violence and abuses?

The pictures of the Photo Voice project offer an opportunity for the victims to share their experiences with you. The victims living in the PAG-ASA shelter in Brussels chose a moment of their past and developed its mise-en-scene with the help of professional photographers (including Barbara Diets and Emmanuelle Salas), in order to convey a message to the public. They have envisioned and interpreted each picture.

Thanks to this project they had the opportunity to express themselves in a way that gives them visibility whilst also ensuring their safety. Each picture is accompanied by a quote of the victim, nationality and judicial district where the exploitation happened.

This exhibition gives voice to the people who PAG-ASA supports each day: once invisible and voiceless victims of human trafficking, these individuals are now empowered, agents of their present and future!
